Oklahoma Native American Basketweavers

Karen Lea Scott currently resides in Duncan, Oklahoma.   She is a member of both ONAB and the Basketweavers of Oklahoma Guild.  Some of the places she has recently exhibited her baskets are the Firehouse Art Center in Norman, Oklahoma; Friends of the Arts, Duncan, Oklahoma, and the Wordpath Society, Norman, Oklahoma and Fiberworks, Oklahoma City, OK. 

She has woven baskets for 15 years and has been caning for 13 years.   She spent 10 years teaching herself basketry. Beginning in 2000, she began attending major basket weaving conventions to improve her skills.  These conventions include the Silver Dollar City basket convention, Missouri Convention, and the Basketweavers of Oklahoma Guild retreats.   

She weaves baskets using wood veneers, natural and smoked commercial reed and chair cane.

Karen also teaches basketry throughout Oklahoma. 



ONAB members preserve, promote and perpetuate traditional basketry and culture of Native American tribes through education and networking.
